Are you looking for a book with real heroes?  Tired of ghouls and monsters achieving hero status?  Want a story written in the spirit of a good ole Roy Rogers western or a Louis L'Amour novel?  If so, you will enjoy the Red Cavalier.  This is a fictional twist to an actual historic event.  It is based on the historic ride of General Joseph Wheeler around General William Rosecrans shortly after the Battle of Chickamauga.  The main character is General Charles E. Tomlin, a British immigrant and veteran of the Crimean War who became a wealthy southern planter.  Convinced that the Confederate cause was just, he allows himself to be called out of retirement and given command of "The Gentleman's Brigade.  This brigade, made up of some of the finest families in the South, serves as part of the Army of Tennessee.

From the back cover:  September, 1863.  The Confederacy  has just won the Battle of Chickamauga.  But in spite of this impressive victory, the treasury of the Confederacy is near empty and its economy is on the verge of collapse.  General Braxton Bragg devises a plan to seize two million dollars in Union gold which is a board a train bound for Washington D.C.  By employing the combined talents of three of his most skilled generals, Nathan Bedford Forrest, Joseph Wheeler, and British Army & Crimean War veteran Charles Tomlin, Bragg orders these men to destroy General Rosecrans' supply lines, disrupt his communications and capture the gold which is being stored at the rail yard in Murfreesboro, TN.
